Periodontal
Periodontal disease or “gum” disease
affects one out of every five adults. It is the leading cause of
tooth loss in adults and is caused by the build-up of plaque. Periodontal
disease can be treated successfully if it is diagnosed early. Regular
cleaning habits and dental visits are preventative measures anyone
can take to help prevent this disease. We offer extended services
to provide you with preventive oral health.
Root Canals
A root canal is the process of removing damaged
or infected pulp (the nerve) of a tooth and filling it with an inert
rubbery material. With modern dentistry root canals are not painful
as many believe. Deep decay, a tooth fracture, repeated fillings
or gum disease could cause damage to the nerve.
Crowns
A crown is simply a tooth-shaped restoration
that covers all or most of the natural tooth above the gum line.
Most often crowns are considered when a filling reaches the end
of its life or when a tooth is heavily damaged. A crown protects
and strengthens the tooth and is created and colored to match not
only the natural color of surrounding teeth, but to properly fit
the bite of the patient. At Sophisticated Smiles we offer porcelain
crowns that are durable as well as beautiful.
Bridges
A bridge can replace anywhere from one tooth
to as many as ten teeth. One of the most popular methods for replacing
one or more missing teeth is with a fixed bridge. A bridge is used
in conjunction with adjacent, existing teeth, filling in the open
space with natural looking teeth. For a wonderful alternative click

Cleaning
/ Hygiene
Our smile is one of the most important impressions
we can make. That’s why it is so important to create a regular
routine of cleaning and hygiene so you that the plaque and calculus
(tartar) from teeth can be removed. Most cavities and periodontal
disease (gums) begin around and between the teeth. Brushing and
flossing are important to keep the teeth and surrounding gums clean
and healthy. Professional cleaning on a regular basis compliment
the brushing and flossing you do at home.
Fillings
A filling is essentially a restoration of lost
tooth structure with metal, alloy, porcelain or resin. Natural tooth
coloring is becoming more popular and blend in almost perfectly
with the existing teeth. These new composite materials are actually
stronger and more durable than the common dark metal materials.
We provide composite fillings as a rule at Sophisticated Smiles
in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Implants
Dental implants are anchors, which act as
tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone.
Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through
the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement
teeth. For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves
two surgical procedures.
